Control what they keep
Limit permissions, turn off data sale, and delete the account when you’re done — not just the icon.
Do this
Cut permissions
Most apps do not need contacts or precise GPS.
Tighten visibility
Incognito / private mode if it exists. Limit who can message you.
Opt out of sale
Look for “Do not sell my data” in privacy settings.
Use a spare email
Keep dating mail off your work inbox.
Delete when you leave
Request data deletion. GDPR and CCPA both cover this.
What they collect
- Profile — name, photos, orientation, job, bio.
- Location — GPS, IP, sometimes when the app is closed.
- Usage — swipes, chats, time in-app.
- Device — IDs used for ads.
- Messages and photos — stored on their servers.
Extra locks
- Don’t link Facebook or Instagram.
- Use a Google Voice number, not your real one.
- Approximate location, not precise.
- Read the privacy policy for deletion, not the slogan.
